Furman University's Study Abroad Program in China

    This study abroad trip will focus on the environmental challenges in Yunnan. The faculty will lead students to examine environmental issues such as lakes and wetland in Yunnan area. This is the third time which we assist Dr. Kaup to arrange the logistics for her study abroad trip in China.

Itinerary:

May 8   Arrive in Beijing and transfer to the Feitian Hotel Beijing. The rest day is at your leisure to explore the beauty of Beijing. 

May 9 Visit Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City in the morning. Then, have a lunch at Fangshan Restaurant. Afternoon, have US Embassy Briefing. Enjoy acrobatic show in the evening.

May 10 Visit Great Wall of Badaling section. Take a short visit to a recycling center or landfill on the way back to downtown area. Have Beijing roast duck dinner before enjoy Beijing Opera in the evening.

May 11 Visit to Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs in the morning. Take a mid afternoon flight to Kunming and check in the Maple Palace Hotel Kunming.

May 12 Visit Jiuxiang caves and the Stone Forest Scenic.

May 13 Visit largest wholesale Flower Market next to Dianchi Lake. Then visit Lao Yu He Wetland by Dianchi Lake. Visit to Yuantong Temple in the afternoon.

May 14 Depart early for Dali from Kunming to visit the Shaping Market. After sightseeing, check in the Landscape Hotel. The rest day is at your leisure to explore the ancient town of Dali.

May 15 Visit the largest intact ethnic village in Yunnan-Zhoucheng to learn the art of indigo textiles and Xizhou Village. Then, visit the Tongue of the Lake Park and Erhai Moon Wetland Park.

May 16 Guest lecture at an Environmental NGO. Spend time at a local middle school. Visit Zhou Baozhong Memorial House. Then, visit the Erhai Lake Museum.

May 17 Take late afternoon flight to Shanghai from Dali and transfer to the Holiday Inn Express Shanghai Putuo.

May 18 Visit the Bund, Urban Planning Museum and Yuyuan Gardens. Drop off after dinner at Xintiandi.

May 19 Transfer to the Pudong International Airport and return to US

2014 Furman University's Study Abroad Program in China 

Prof. Kate Kaup leads Furman University’s study abroad group to China under our arrangement during June 28 – July 5. The goal of this academic program is to show students’ China’s diversity---both in terms of economic development levels, rural-urban differences, and difference geographical regions.

Take a coach to Shanghai from Suzhou University in the morning. Visit Shanghai Museum - one of the best museums in China, the Bund – the must see place in Shanghai, Yu Garden – which is considered one of the most lavish and finest Chinese gardens in the region. In the evening, watch the awesome acrobatic show

Visit the Urban Planning Museum in the morning and fly to Xian in the afternoon

Visit the City Wall - the most complete architecture & well preserved of ancient city walls, and learn Chinese martial art – Taichi. Then, visit the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum to see the Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses. Enjoy the Tang Dynasty style dance show in the evening.

Tour two villages near Xian to see semiarid farming and farmer families to learn local rural life.

Visit the Grand Mosque as well as surrounding Muslim street in the morning. Take a high-speed train to Beijing from Xian in the afternoon. Watch the Beijing Opera in the evening.

Tour the Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City in the morning. Have a briefing visit the US Embassy in Beijing. Enjoy the imperial food in the Fangshan Restaurant in Beihai Park.

Today’s highlight is the Great Wall.  Enjoy the astounding views of the Wall as it winds over the surrounding hills.  Then, visit the Olympic Green. Taste Beijing Duck in the final banquet
